Hibs 1-0 victory sees them go 8 points clear
Hibs victory over Queen of the South, coupled with Dundee United being held to a draw at Dunfermline sees Hibees strengthen their position at the top of the Scottish Championship and now sit 8 points clear of their nearest challengers.

There are defining points in each season and ultimately Hibees home trouncing of United at the start of the month could be seen as one of these however it’s the ability to go to tricky venues like Palmerston and Dumbarton and grind out single goal victories which will carry Hibs to the title.
Much like we did after getting caned at Ibrox around the festive period last year it looks like United are flailing following a good run and having found themselves top for 5 days now find themselves 8 points adrift, winless in 5 and face the real possibility of being overtaken by Morton in the race for second.
There’s only 14 matches to go of the season and given what is practically a 9 point lead at the top given Hibs far superior goal difference, it’s difficult to see where the sides chasing can make up the gap.
Yes, Hibs do have some potential banana skins in their way. We’ve still to travel to Tannadice and Greenock as well as East End Park but with 8 of the remaining fixtures to be played in front of the home fans at Easter Road it would appear to be an insurmountable task for the chasers.
It’s all very well saying we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves, and rightly keeping grounded but both United and Morton are going to drop points on an equal basis and Neil Lennon seems to have turned Hibs into a methodical machine capable of grinding out results whereby in the past we’d have settled for a point in trying circumstances.
There seems to be great belief within the squad at the moment even when we’re not playing as we can that we’ll still get the result required no matter what the opposition does and it’s a great trait to have regardless of the level you’re playing.
It feels like Hibs have hit cruise control to coast to the title and automatic promotion, it would be nice to put a choke hold on the others and seal it as soon as possible.
