We Were Outstanding – Stubbs

Hibs took the lead against Championship leaders Hearts in the Edinburgh derby this weekend, although in the end we had to settle for a point in the one-one draw.

Jason Cummings had put us ahead Jamie Walker, with a fine goal, denied us the win with a draw something we had to make do with in the end, which left Alan Stubbs pleased but also left with a little disappointment that it wasn’t more.

Stubbs told the media after the game that he thought we ‘dominated’ and deserved more but did pay tribute to the goal that denied us the win with him taking plenty of positives from this draw with our rivals.

He said: ‘I am disappointed because I thought we were outstanding. We’ve come to Tynecastle and really showed a performance of dominance. We showed a lot of courage to get on the ball and play on the front foot and take the game to Hearts.

‘I felt we should have been in the lead (at half-time) but credit where it’s due, it was a fantastic strike. When you’re not playing as well as what we were, when you’ve got that in your armoury it’s a great tool to have. Unfortunately we have been on the end of two great goals against them that have got them back into games.

‘But there are so many positives from our point of view, the lads deserve so much credit, they’re a completely different bunch to what were there when I came in.’

We asked Hearts as many, in fact more, questions than most have this season but we went into the game with the confidence that we could do this anyway.

Stubbs knows that ‘on our day’ we can be anyone, and compete with anyway, with this game proving that.
