Stubbs – Half Term Report

Alan Stubbs had many Hibs fans divided when the announcement was made that he was to be Hibs new manager after relegation from the SPFL under Terry Butcher, just typing the name Terry Butcher gives me the heave! Stubbs was well known to Hibs fans after playing for Celtic between 1996 and 2001, it was reported in his Autobiography that he still remembers the reception he got at Easter Road from the Hibs faithful when he made his comeback after being operated on after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

I think most Hibs fans will now agree his appointment has worked out better than expected, he has installed great confidence in a team that was down in the dumps after relegation, a team that most pundits in the media agree are playing football with flair and only a couple of weeks ago thumped Ranger 4-0 at Easter Road.

Some of the signings Stubbs has made have been first class Mark Oxley after what’s best described as a stuttering start is now looking like a goalkeeper, David Gray has been Mr Consistent and has been one of the best full backs at Easter Road in many a year, Liam Fontaine is an absolute rock in the centre of defence, Scott Allen has been hailed by many as the best player in the championship, Dylan McGeouch was probably Hibs best player before injury, then we have the goal scoring exploits of Malonga and El Algui and you can see he has made fantastic use of the funds at Easter Road.

With the January window open already and Hibs doing their first bit of business with Harris going to Dundee with Boyle moving the other way, both being loan deals until the end of the current season, the Jan window should be fairly busy with a few players moving on and a few arrivals.

So from me the half time report reads as an A+ with I believe some exciting times to come.
