Vital Hibs are backing the campaign led by Paul Kane and supported by Hibernian stalwarts Jackie McNamara, Mike McDonald and Mickey Weir alongside club legend Pat Stanton to oust Rod Petrie from his role at the club.
Having witnessed first hand the belief these true Hibernians have at the weekend then we firmly believe the correct course of action would be the removal of Petrie from the club as non executive Chairman.
Perhaps the most factual statement given was by Kane himself when he asked the 1500 or so supporters who’d gathered if, like the aforementioned players who return to Easter Road to watch the club after their playing days were over, is there any likelihood of Petrie doing the same when his tenure does eventually come to an end?
The answer has to be a categorical no.
Whilst we believe Petrie has done a lot of good for the benefit of Hibs, it would now be foolhardy not to look at the bigger picture which now sees supporters at odds with their own club.
The removal of Sir Tom Farmer’s man of choice would bring an instant reward with season tickets being renewed aplenty to help newly appointed CEO Leeanne Dempster to progress with a summer budget of which a completely new squad is the main priority.
With the club sitting with approximately £8 million worth of debt, any increase in revenue streams need to be looked at and if the stubbornness of one person to quit is costing the club income then surely Sir Tom, who bought the club for the community and not for monetary gain, needs to take his own blinkers off and withdraw Petrie from the firing line.
We’ve been impressed with the beginning of the campaign but need to hear more in terms of proper action that can be taken which doesn’t damage the ability of the team to compete on the park.
