England has an approximate population of 53.01 million compared to 5.295 million residing in Scotland. Another pointless fact is that football is as popular south of the border as it is north of Gretna.
Therefore, one doesn’t have to dig out an old abacus to work out there will be more spectators visiting Premier League stadiums compared to the ones who attend our Premiership grounds.
Slow news day
As Europe endures another domestic league shutdown, we at Vital Hibs thought we would bring our readers some impressive figures. Or should I write uninteresting?
Which Football League Draws The Biggest Crowd?
The following chart illustrates how the European league attendances, including Russia’s PL, compare to one another.
Bundesliga
There are 82.67 million inhabitants, (probably more since they allowed migrants to settle in their country) living in Germany. And football is popular as it ever was. Okay, I appreciate England’s Premier League has a worldwide TV audience bigger than any other. However, one interesting statistic is that the EPL will never beat the Bundesliga attendance figures unless they amend their laws because most European leagues allow sections of safe-standing.
Premiership stadia maximum capacities
The following figures do, on occasion, fluctuate.
Celtic Park – 60,832
Ibrox – 51,028
Pittodrie – 22,199
Easter Road – 20,420
Tynecastle – 20,099
Rugby Park – 18,128
Fir Park – 13,742
Dens Park – 12,085
McDiarmid Park – 10,673
Almondvale – 10,016
St Mirren Park – 8,023
New Douglas Park – 6,000
Does this prove anything?
The Premiership could give the likes of England’s second tier a run for their money if lower club teams such as Dundee United (14,209), Ayr (12,175), Greenock Morton (12,011) and Dunfermline (11,904) were ever promoted.
Stadium capacity does not mean anything. It’s the number of people that turn up that counts.
