Have you ever heard of representatives of a professional football club collaborating with supporters and a distillery and then everyone bounces ideas around and before you know it you have a beautiful drop of Hibernian Dry Gin.

The growth of distilleries creating the alcoholic beverage has grown exponentially in recent times. Just look around, and you’ll probably see a roadside sign directing you to a refurbished building tucked away on a trading estate.

They remind me of the new ‘pop up’ fast-food takeaway stalls which are usually found in the city centre outdoor markets.

Ingredients

One has to use juniper and then add a concoction of various other components such as coriander, citrus peel, cinnamon, almond and or liquorice to make the clear nectar.

Eden Mill – St Andrews – Hibernian Dry Gin

A few days ago Hibs left-back Lewis Stevenson was at Eden Mill’s Blendworks in St Andrews alongside David Gray, Jackie McNamara, Murdo MacLeod and Tony Higgins all of whom were in attendance to spread the word.

Lewis Stevenson said: “The afternoon was perfect. It was something different for me, but I really enjoyed it.

“I quite like gin as well, so that helped a bit, but it’s a shame I couldn’t drink it today.

“I went for Goji berry, strawberry and one of the spices in my one that I made. I was struggling to come up with a name so went for I went for ‘Gadgie Berry Gin,’ so I hope it goes down well!

“It was a good afternoon all round.”

Cult hero Jackie McNamara was also captured on camera.

As was former Hibernian player Tony Higgins.

Hibernian Dry Gin ingredients and how to purchase a bottle or two can be found at the official Eden Mill website.
