Coming up from the Championship and finishing fourth in Scotland’s top division last season was a great achievement and a massive shot in the arm for those involved at Hibernian Football Club.

From a supporter’s perspective, a victory away at Rangers, a home 2-1 win against Celtic and a couple of decent results against our Edinburgh neighbours most definitely stirred up one or two emotions.

Premiership title 2018/19

We are far too early into the season to talk about title winners, nevertheless and as it stands, eight games into the campaign, the teams who are current contenders are Hearts, ourselves, Celtic and possibly Kilmarnock.

I am slightly surprised and thought Aberdeen might be doing somewhat better while Rangers are not particularly on my radar.

The way I see it is that Steven Gerrard is still to find his managerial feet, plus, and let’s be clear without sounding pompous or arrogant. Rangers FC doesn’t have enough quality and depth in their squad to sustain any real challenge. I could, however, be proved wrong.

Hibs are still to face some of the fancied clubs, and so this Saturday should separate the professionals from the amateurs.

And then in 11 days following the Celtic Park clash our next humongous test is away at Tynecastle.

I am not that stupid to conjure up a prediction on how we will fair against Celtic or Hearts. However, the lads will be up for it, as will Neil Lennon and the 1000 or so travelling supporters.

Come on lads and put Celtic and Hearts in their place.
