“One Neil Lennon” Or “One Leeann Dempster”

|

Sunday afternoon’s fixture at St Mirren Park will likely see Hibs fans head to Paisley with mixed emotions following Neil Lennon’s suspension ahead of a likely departure.

Judging by social media and supporter forums it’s clear to see the majority of the Hibees faithful would prefer to see the Irishman remain in position.

I’m not staying it’s unanimous by any manner of means. The vocal minority offended by trivial matters in life haven’t been slow to state it’s for the best whereas some reasonable fans can also see the benefit of change.

Hibs have clearly not controlled this matter well and the board deserve to be strongly questioned on why even the briefest of statements wasn’t released ahead of leaks to the press and scaremongering social media posts.

The interest will peak come kick off time to see if the support belts out the now familiar “One Neil Lennon” chant or will those in attendance choose to sit on their hands accepting of the way Dempster and Petrie have controlled this affair.

For one I strongly hope it’s the former.

If Neil Lennon has had a pop at his players then they deserve it. No doubt about that. For the players to complain to the chief executive about his behaviour is a bit rich as far as I’m concerned.. Weight of pass, taking the ball in, their first touch is all lacking in recent matches. Pass and move is not in evidence down Easter Road way. Can’t make the top six but not going to be relegated puts the team in no man’s land right now. However, you must question the players’ desire and dedication. Failing to make the top six is abject failure for Hibernian. Add in the fact that every Hibs player except Steven Whittaker has been injured at some point in this season then it’s fair to question the condition of the players. Sadly for me it looks like Neil Lennon will not return to the club. He was a very demanding manager and rightly so. Are the players putting it in? If a Hibernian player makes his debut for the club at 20, retires at 34, will they look back at what is a short career in football and say was I all that I could of been for Hibs? Did we challenge for honours as a capital city club or did we coast along in eighth place in the Scottish Premiership? Neil Lennon demanded more and so do the Hibernian fans.
