Hibs veteran centre half, Michael Nelson, can leave Easter Road if he can find himself a new club.

Talks between the defender and backroom staff have revealed he won’t be used in a frequent playing capacity under boss Alan Stubbs who so far has preferred to partner Paul Hanlon and Jordan Forster at the heart of the Hibs backline.

Nelson, signed by Pat Fenlon last summer from Bradford, made 34 appearances for the Hibees last season but a dismal run of form by the team saw a section of the support turn on the Englishman as the club slid towards relegation.

Known as The Admiral, he has previously played for Hartlepool, Norwich and Kilmarnock amongst others and his agent confirmed to Sky Sports he was available to leave.

Clive Hart said: ‘Alan [Stubbs] has spoken to Michael and told him his opportunities are likely to be limited this season and that the club won’t stand in his way if the right opportunity comes along.

‘Hibs have been very understanding in the whole thing and Alan has told Michael he is happy to have him around the club if nothing arises as he is very good to have around the place.’
