Here at Vital Hibs we don’t really believe in omens or suchlike but we’ve thought of five reasons as to why Hibs can be successful in Sunday’s Edinburgh Derby.

Hearts aren’t really that good

Now the Jambo’s you speak to firmly believe they’re going to waltz away with the Championship title this season.

They’re back to their arrogant best after selling their soul to the devil and now the Budgie is in charge after Administration, an act which saw them drop creditors including charities, local businesses and the UK taxpayer to the tune of £30 million they believe they’re invincible again.

Heightening their expectations even further by registering a 2-1 victory over the worst Rangers team in ever you can tell they’re back in the untouchable zone.

However, sorry to disappoint any incoming Jambo but whoever is in goals will be pretty poor.

McHattie and McGhee are both rash in the tackle, prone to losing it and pretty easily beaten.

Ozturk as a centre half is simply a calamity waiting to happen – he’ll cost them goals this season.

In midfield Gomis looks awful. A one man wrecking ball to be honest and Prince Bobo looks a shadow of the Bauben that played with Dundee United.

King and Nicholson on the flanks are both young and unproven while Dale Carrick offers, well not a lot really.

Bar Sow and Wilson, who’re no world beaters, they’re pretty average – agreed?

Pressure is all on them

They fully expect to win, and to win comfortably.

An early Hibs goal will heap pressure on them in front of their hordes and Hibs are knocking the ball about well enough to hit them on the break for more.

Alan Stubbs Factor

Stubbs has brought new optimism to Easter Road and for the first time in years looks like the squad have a ‘one for all, all for one’ attitude.

The new gaffer has shown respect to the players who’ve reciprocated and look like they’re willing to put their bodies on the line rather than the us & them that prevailed between squad and management last season.

Element of surprise

Neilson may have watched Hibs play Livingston last weekend but Hibs have yet to field their strongest side this campaign.

Matthew Kennedy and Scott Allan are yet to start for the Hibees and it would be no surprise to see them do so on Sunday.

Stubbs also tinkered with different formations in pre-season – could we see a tactical change for this game?

Robbie Neilson was taught by Craig Levein

The tactical genius who brought the national side to shame by introducing the 4-6-0 system to Scotland against a poor Czech Republic side has groomed (not in the normal Tynecastle manner but nonetheless) the Jambo’s Head Coach since an early age.

Wherever Levein has went, Robbie’s normally followed so it wasn’t really surprising they booted out Gary Locke when he was appointed Director of Football and appointed one of his protégés.

We all know how a Levein team plays: long ball to a target man (Sow) or get the ball wide for a winger to cross to said target man. It’s not pretty but he’s managed to somehow scrape a living out the game with it and on Sunday’s performance at Ibrox it was definitely a Son of Craig outfit.
