Northern Ireland defender Ryan McGivern has exited Easter Road to join English League One outfit Port Vale, subject to international clearance, both clubs have confirmed.

The former Manchester City trainee has penned a two year deal with the Valiants following a disappointing season with Hibs which culminated in relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

McGivern had initially joined Hibs on loan from his parent club during the 2012/13 season and impressed then boss Pat Fenlon sufficiently to be offered a permanent contract at the club when his deal at the City of Manchester Stadium expired last summer.

The 24 year old signed a two year deal to continue his stay in Edinburgh however his form declined rapidly and he was to become a target for the terrace boo boys as the side lost form after Terry Butcher replaced Fenlon as boss last November.

A run of only one win in 19 matches was enough to see Butcher sacked earlier this month and his replacement, Alan Stubbs, has already deemed McGivern surplus to requirements despite only being in charge for a week.

His exit was foreseen by many Hibs supporters who are generally pleased to see the back of the full back cum centre half who they feel lacked the appetite and attitude to succeed at the highest level.

McGivern definitely needed to move on. Car crash of a defender but hopefully he can screw the nut and carve a career out the game. Got to imagine this is him drinking in the last chance saloon as I can’t see anyone touching him if he fails in League One.

I don’t hate many Hibs players but he’s one I despised last season. Billy Bigbaws thought he was better than the club but he was garbage. Good riddance to him. Feel sorry for Port Vale. They don’t deserve this clown playing for them.
