Hibs crashed out of the CIS Insurance Cup at the first hurdle following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The result heaps even more pressure on boss John Hughes as the Hibs fans patience is not only wearing thin but virtually non – existant, following a dismal run which has seen only 4 victories in 26 games, a sequence which has also seen the Hibees fail to win at Easter Road since March.

Hibs had actually began tonight’s cup tie brightly and took the lead through on loan Middlesborough man Johnathan Grounds in only 8 minutes.

Things were soon to fall apart for Yogi and his side though and Kilmarnock believed they were awarded a penalty midway through the first half when referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot only to be over ruled by his forth official who was standing 50 yards away from the incident.

Killie did equalise shortly thereafter through Jamie Hamill and it would be the same player who would complete the turnaround for the homeside after the break.

With 20 minutes left Bryson turned neatly in the box only to be fouled by Dicoh and this time Collum gave the penalty without changing his mind.

It was Hamill who stepped up to cooly slot past Mark Brown in the Hibees goal.

Shortly afterwards David Silva completed the victory for Killie with a fine individual effort provoking some Hibs supporters to call for the manager’s head.

Next up for Hibs is a visit to Parkhead to face a rampant Celtic – conceders of only a goal domestically this season and 6-0 victors over Inverness Caley this evening.
