Yesterday saw Hibs fall to a second league defeat in three games but with any kind of good fortune, the result against Rangers could have been all so different.

In an enterprising clash, both sides gave a decent account of themselves but judging by some comments on social media and messageboards, you’d have thought Hibs had been humiliated and were going to be considered eternal failures after a close 1-0 loss.

I’m not condoning defeat but to lose a game where your side has 4 golden opportunities and scorn the lot is unfortunate, perhaps somewhat careless but to suggest Hibs can’t challenge for the title is ridiculous with 33 games to go.

Certainly Alan Stubbs has to get his men sharpened up. The amount of relatively simple opportunities squandered in front of goal in the last 12 months is preposterous and the standard of finishing or striker has to be improved by a significant margin.

Rangers aren’t going to win every game this season and Stubbs showed the rest of the Ladbrokes Championship that if you nullify the threats posed by overlapping fullbacks Wallace and Tavernier by pushing two men wide then they’re very ordinary when creating chances.

Hibs obviously don’t want the Ibrox outfit regaining their former fear factor when most sides were a goal down before they played them but have to be more ruthless themselves and alter the mindset of opponents who believe if they get a single chance in the game they will score whilst knowing the Hibees will miss a barrowload before hitting the net.

Confidence breeds success and Hibs have to believe they can go on a lengthy winning streak and narrow the gap on Rangers prior to their next meeting in November and although there are some tough fixtures these are the games you have to win to be crowned Champions at the end of the season.

Fans have to realise they have a big part to play in the club’s future success and surrendering the title at this stage of the season is a pitiful summation of the mindset of some supporters at this time.

Easter Road needs to become a fortress once more but that can’t happen with fans continual negativity towards the players or result. We’re not going to win 5 nil every week and must be vocal in the right manner when things aren’t going to plan against the so called smaller outfits in the division.

1 or 2 points could still decide the outcome of the Championship and everyone should be doing their bit to help the club reach its goal. The last thing Hibs need at this time are falling attendances and dissenting voices in the stands.

With 99 points still available, Hibs do probably need to take 90% of these but it’s been done before and can be done again; Lets get back to doing what we do best and supporting rather than slandering the team.

Agree 100%. If you look at the condensed highlights on BBC Internet Hibs had as many clear chances as Rangers. I think if Hibs can get their shooting boots on and confidence grows like Rangers we’ll still be in with a shout of the championship. We’ve two games against them before the next transfer window opens during which time they will no doubt bolster their squad further for the run in. Then we play them at Easter Road in the 4th game. Two wins and a draw is not beyond us so we need to start getting full points from our other games starting this weekend. Cmon we can do this!!! To hell with the playoff. We have to fight for the one automatic promotion. We were miles apart in the Petrofac. We were in their rear view mirror on Sunday. Let’s get intae them and pass the ………..!!!!

Haha! Excellent post John! I fully agree. We shouldn’t be writing automatic promotion off – we can certainly turn it around. The constant negativity from some does my head in though!
