Hibs boss John Collins would love to win the Scottish Cup – but he knows his side will have to be at their very best if they are to reach May’s final at Hampden Park.

With the Easter Road side facing a tricky match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie tomorrow (Wed, Jan 10) in the third-round, Hibs have a long way to go if they are to lift the trophy for the first time in 105 years.

Whoever wins will face last season’s runners-up Gretna at home in the next round – and the runaway First Division leaders have shown on previous occasions that they can beat anybody on their day as they continue their seemingly-unstoppable rise towards the SPL.

Collins told BBC Scotland: “We would love to finish the season on a sunny day in May having won the cup. It’s going to be a big challenge for us up there and it’s live on television but that’s great for the players.

“We are trying to get the players to believe in themselves but they have shown a great attitude. Hopefully it will be a good game of football in Aberdeen and we will be trying to play our usual game, get hold of the ball and take control of the game.”

Collins added that he was sure that Hibs, along with every other team in the competition, were delighted to see Rangers dumped out by SPL strugglers Dunfermline on Sunday.
