Are Celtic Really Interested In Allan?

The Scott Allan transfer saga keeps dragging on and today sees a few speculative media articles suggesting the player may indeed be moving to Glasgow but not to Rangers.

Celtic boss Ronny Delia’s refusal to discuss the matter provoked some frenetic internet chatter with many believing an offer was imminent.

The varying diatribe consists of offers around £500,000, the same fee plus Dylan McGeouch, or maybe 500k and Liam Henderson & McGeouch or if we’re still playing Football Manager then half a million, Henderson, McGeouch & Allan returning to complete the season on loan.

Now it’s all very well if Celtic are interested, they can certainly afford to pay the fee for starters, but what benefit would it be to them to sign the player, a self proclaimed bluenose?

Certainly he’d have to work pretty damn hard to win over the Parkhead fans due to his ‘allegiances’ and one would imagine if he failed to produce the goods immediately he could find himself quickly in the wilderness under Delia and JC.

The questions remain though. He’s not a better player than Brown, Armstrong, Biton or Johansen. Is he a significant improvement than say Tom Rogic or Charlie Mulgrew in the centre of the park?

One benefit is he’s Scottish and that would help with the home grown rule on the European stage but the speculation could well be fantasy football chatter.

The whole thing just doesn’t ring true. Allan’s life would become unbearable having signalled his intent to sign for the Rangers but to then turn his back on his boyhood idols seems unthinkable.

As much as it would be hilarious from a Hibs fans point of view for him to bump Rangers and his ‘dream move’ to sign for their bitterest of rivals and for real money, it just doesn’t seem likely.

Let’s wait and see what kind of drama unfolds!
