Hibs SPL season ended with a 1-0 victory over Dundee at Easter Road thanks to a David Wotherspoon header ten minutes from time.

A third win inside a week sets the Hibees up nicely for next Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final against champions Celtic, when they’ll be hoping to become club legends by winning the trophy for the first time since 1902.

The home side were dominant throughout against a Dundee side who could yet find themselves in the SPL next season dependent on the outcome of the league’s enquiry into the financial shenanigans of Hearts and their relationship to Vladimir Romanov’s UBIG group who are officially listed in Lithuania as insolvent.

Action during the first half saw Leigh Griffiths and Alex Harris test Dens keeper Simonsen with decent efforts as well as young centre half Jordan Forster’s header which flew inches over the bar.

Hibs were denied claims for a penalty moments after Griffiths saw an effort saved but referee Colvin waved play on.

Despite controlling the half the game remained goalless at half time.

Griffiths saw another effort go wide after showing some wonderful control from Hanlon’s defence splitting pass before Dundee almost grabbed a shock lead when Conroy’s effort went agonizingly wide.

29 goal hitman Griffiths was substituted with 15 minutes remaining and left the field to a standing ovation as the Hibs supporters acclaimed the boyhood Hibee who may have played his last game at Easter Road following parent club Wolves decision to exercise the one year option on his contract.

Minutes later it was substitute David Wotherspoon who sealed the victory for Pat Fenlon’s men.

The Scotland under 21 star, a replacement for 19 year old Alex Harris, met Lewis Stevenson’s cross from the left and bulleted a header past the stranded Simonsen in the Dundee goal.
