Hibs will confirm Alan Stubbs as manager on Monday after Leeann Dempster concluded discussions with the Everton reserve team coach.

Stubbs’ arrival ends a two week search for Terry Butcher’s successor with the latter having been relieved of his duties following a catastrophic run of form which culminated in the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Former Celtic defender Stubbs will be hopeful of turning around the Easter Road outfit’s fortunes with his tenure beginning with almost a blank canvas following the release of the majority of the playing squad that saw them demoted.

His departure from the Toffees, where he had an interview for the manager’s role after David Moyes left for Manchester United, will leave Roberto Martinez seeking to replace another member of his backroom staff after Alan Irvine, another applicant for the Hibs job, was surprisingly installed as manager of West Brom.

Despite this being his first foray into club management hopes are high for the former Bolton star who is held in high regard south of the border.

Hibs are looking to push for immediate promotion back to the Premiership but will have to contend with perpetual crisis club Rangers and city rivals Hearts if they are to succeed at the first time of asking.
