Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has admitted he could make a move for James McFadden with the former Motherwell winger remaining a free agent following his release by the Fir Park side earlier this summer.

The new Easter Road Head Coach played alongside Scotland legend McFadden when the winger, famed for his wonderful long range effort for the Scots which sealed victory over France in the Parc des Princes, signed for the Toffees in 2003.

Now 31, the winger is still searching for a new club after his contract with the Lanarkshire outfit expired last month and Stubbs has admitted he’d be interested in bringing him to the Hibees.

Speaking to STV after the draw for the Petrofac Cup pitched Hibs against Rangers Stubbs said: ‘I know him (McFadden) well, he’s a terrific player, it could be a possibility.’

Earlier this week saw another former Fir Park forward, Henrik Ojamaa, linked with a move to Leith after falling out of favour at Polish outfit Legia Warsaw however targeting McFadden would be viewed positively by the Hibees faithful who applauded him off the park when substituted last March after an impressive performance in a 3-3 draw at Easter Road.
