Hibs have this afternoon confirmed the appointment of Alan Stubbs as Terry Butcher’s replacement.

The 42 year old arrived at the club’s East Mains Training Centre this afternoon and will be formally introduced to the media at a press conference on Thursday.

Stubbs had been widely tipped to become the Hibees seventh gaffer in eight years and the confirmation via the club website brought fans fears over a last minute collapse to the deal to an end.

The former Celtic defender was highly rated at boyhood heroes Everton, where he managed the Toffees under 21 squad and had earned himself an interview for the senior management role last summer after David Moyes left for Manchester United however Blues chairman Bill Kenwright opted for Roberto Martinez instead.

Hibs, have as yet to confirm contract details although it’s believed Stubbs has agreed terms on an initial two year deal.

His appointment as Head Coach rather than Manager is part of the club’s long term vision to incorporate a more continental style approach to all footballing matters – a key factor in CEO Leeann Dempster’s attempts to overhaul the decline in standards at the Easter Road side.
