Hibs midfielder Michael Stewart has said his call-up to Scotland’s B-squad is in recognition of all the hard work he has put in during the past two seasons.

Walter Smith named 25-year-old Stewart alongside team-mates Steven Whittaker, Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson for the match in Dublin of Tuesday (Nov 14) as he looks at his options ahead of the next round of Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Stewart, who has been an ever-present for Hibs this season, said: ‘It was a massive boost especially considering it is an extremely strong squad. Last season was just a platform in making sure I got as many performances as I could and then this year was a case of trying to make an impact.

‘It’s been a favourable couple of months and, like anyone, when these things get announced and you are involved, it does make you realise there is a benefit to all the hard work at the end.’
