St Johnstone boss Owen Coyle has named CIS Insurance Cup semi-final opponents Hibs as odds-on favourites to lift the trophy, even though his own side humiliated Rangers by winning 2-0 at Ibrox.

The two teams will meet at Hampden Park on January 31 and the winners will play Falkirk or Kilmarnock in the final, after Hibs overcame Edinburgh-rivals Hearts 1-0 at Easter Road.

St Johnstone currently top the First Division ahead of pre-season favourites Gretna and have been looking strong all season, but Coyle knows that his side will be underdogs for the semi-final.

Coyle said: ‘If the four teams left in the cup play to their maximum capabilities, then Hibs will win it. There’s no doubt about that in my mind. I have to say they were the team I wanted to avoid in the draw. I watched them play at Dunfermline recently and some of their football was fantastic.

‘We will be massive underdogs but we have been in the last two rounds anyway. It is a semi-final and we are one game away from a major final so we will give it everything we have.’
