Milligan To Return: MacLaren’s Future In Doubt

|

Hibs are set to welcome back Mark Milligan and Jamie MacLaren after the Aussie duo saw their dreams of Asian Gold Cup success denied by UAE.

The hosts defeated the Socceroos 1-0 thanks to Ali Ahmed Mabkhout’s 68th minute strike at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain today.

Despite being amongst the favourites to lift the trophy for a second time in succession the Australians struggled in the tournament but can count themselves a little unfortunate in their latest outing having dominated for lengthy periods.

Milligan captained the side and MacLaren was also a starter as luck deserted Graham Arnold’s men.

Both players will now be expected to make a return to Easter Road however MacLaren’s future is in doubt with reported interest from his homeland.

Melbourne City are said to be favourites to land the striker who has netted only once this campaign following his return to Edinburgh after an initial loan spell last season saw him form an enviable partnership with Flo Kamberi.

Sydney, Adelaide United and former club Brisbane Roar are also monitoring the 25 year old’s situation although no talks can take place until Darmstadt and Hibs agree to terminate the current agreement.

With Hibs boss Neil Lennon admitting he needs to bolster his attacking options it’s unlikely he would part company with the hitman until he’d secured reinforcements.
