Dominique Malonga has thanked the fans for the send off he received following the Edinburgh derby ahead of his departure for the African Cup of Nations.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained that the fans chanting his name at the end really did touch him.

‘I want to thank our fans because when the game finished they applauded me – that was brilliant and I hope that we win many games. When I come back I hope we are higher up in the Championship table, that we keep going and winning games.’

Malonga went on to say that he was disappointed at full time though following the one all draw because he felt it was a game we should’ve won and taken all three points from, and that was the particular result he wanted to depart on, but a point is a point, and he knows that the team can take confidence and the positives from the performance we put in.

He headed to Paris on Sunday and from there will fly to Senegal to join up with his Congo teams mates, firstly for their friendly against Cape Verde before then heading to participate in the African Cup of Nations for the opening game against Equatorial Guinea.
