Neil Lennon has admitted Hibs are no further forward to extending the loan deal of Kris Commons with the midfielder’s current deal running out on Sunday.

The Celtic player arrived at Easter Road last month on a 28 day emergency loan and made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Morton just 24 hours after signing.

Having initially struggled in the Championship through a lack of mach practice the 33 year old found his feet and scoring boots in the 2-1 victory over Falkirk on Hogmanay and it was his blistering free kick from the edge of the box which secured a vital 3 points for Hibs.

With over a fortnight left before the transfer window closes it looks likely the player will return to Celtic Park to discuss his options with reported interest from the American MLS but with Commons settled happily in Scotland it’s far from certain he’d be keen on a Stateside move at this point in his career.

His contract at Parkhead runs out this summer and with the impressive form of Brendan Rodgers side it’s clear the veteran’s career is over despite the high regard in which he’s held by the Celtic support.

Lennon, who’s played alongside Commons as well as managing him would love for him to prolong his stay in the capital however speaking at his pre match conference he stated “We`re not further down the line (with Commons.)

“There are more things to consider this time, for the player and for Celtic as well.

“It`s a question of finance as well, whether we can do it over a length of time. I think he is enjoying it here and it`s been good for him, I think he`s starting to show.

“It`s been good for him and it`s been good for us. I think it`s worked for both. We`re four points clear now, we weren`t when he came in.

“He won us the game at Falkirk and he played a big part in the game last week as well. He is a class player.”
