Is Strachan A Temporary Option Or A Permanent Fix

|

As predicted soon after the news of Neil Lennon’s suspension broke on Friday night Gordon Strachan was installed as the bookmakers favourite to replace the Irishman at Easter Road.

This has led to the mainstream media jumping on the lazy journalism bandwagon with the Glasgow based press insisting he’s due to be sounded out for the position.

As highlighted in our previous article Leeann Dempster is not known for choosing the obvious candidate. Strachan definitely falls into this category. Hibs fan as a youth, his delight at the club winning the Scottish Cup and ties to a large Hibees community.

Perhaps more importantly for our CEO he has links to Celtic where he lead the Hoops to 3 Premiership titles and the last 16 of the Champions League. I may only be half joking with the first part of that particular sentence.

Dempster’s MO appears to be hungry managers with a point to prove if her past record is anything to go by. Stuart McCall at Motherwell, Stubbs and Lennon at Hibs. Bringing in an old head would see a change in philosophy and many Hibs supporters aren’t exactly convinced the wee ginger guy from Muirhouse is a step in the right direction.

He could certainly bring knowledge and passion but would he really fancy sacrificing his well paid media duties to come under fire from some fans who believe we have a divine right to win each week? Does he still have the appetite and desire Dempster seems to search for? It’s certainly questionable.

His record with Scotland was average, he failed at Middlesborough. Why would he succeed at Easter Road with a limited budget, fickle fanbase and players who run to a CEO when attitudes are questioned?

All of a sudden temporary managers are a thing after Ole Gunner Solksjaer turned up at Old Trafford and turned the Red Devils from purveyors of eye bleeding football to a stylish, swashbuckling Man Utd side of yesteryear however without needing to state the obvious: We are not Manchester United.

United can afford to sack the mediocre Mourinho and bring in a stop gap. Hibs can’t and won’t. The players available at Old Trafford were consistently under-performing world class stars. Any manager changing the style of football could have got better results than the dour Portuguese without wishing to diminish what Ole has done thus far.

Will Hibs fans be all accepting of Strachan due to the loose ties he has with the club and his pro Hibernian comments in the press? At best he’s a safe pair of hands. Could he be a permanent fix? I alongside many others have grave doubts.
