Hibs play-off rivals fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Falkirk Stadium last night leaving Saturday’s second leg very much in the balance.

Hamilton started the better side against a Bairns outfit who were noticibly fatigued following their extra time success over Queen of the South last weekend but it took the Accies an hour to force the lead when Darian MacKinnon curled home a beauty from 18 yards out.

Falkirk weren’t for giving up however and levelled the tie with a deserved equaliser when Roy’s excellent low cross was fired home by Beck to equalise with ten minutes remaining.

What was clearly evident was both sides will cause the watching Terry Butcher a few headaches as he aims to secure his squad’s Premiership status.

Meanwhile, the Hibees have been boosted by the news influential midfielder Kevin Thomson will be back to full fitness for the play-off matches after the former Scotland international missed the last two league outings after hobbling off with a thigh strain during the 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle.

Thomson’s guile and composure were badly missed during last Saturday’s home defeat to Kilmarnock where, despite periods of sustained pressure, Hibs failed to secure the result they required to guarantee top flight football next neason.

Former Hibee Darren Dods believes it would be disastrous if the Easter Road side were relegated and warned it could take years for them to come back up.

Dods, still playing for Forfar, said in The Scottish Sun ‘With Hearts and Rangers already in the Championship it would be really difficult to get out of it.

‘You have seen clubs like Dundee and Falkirk take a while to get back out of it – that would be a disaster for Hibs.’
