Whilst Leigh Griffiths deservedly won the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award this past Sunday night for some scintillating performances for Hibernian this year, the club’s fans are already heralding another young prospect as having the potential to have a similar impact on the SPL next season as his 27 goal team-mate this.

Step forward 18 year old Alex Harris who has shown flashes of brilliance in his handful of appearances so far with supporters admitting it’s a rarity to have such a player who has the ability to excite in the modern Scottish game.

Despite being a complete novice with only ten league and cup appearances (of which only 5 were starting roles) under his belt thus far, Harris is seen as having the potential to go far in the game with an outstanding performance in the Scottish Cup semi final last month proving the catalyst for an unlikely Hibs victory with his side trailing 3-0 at half time to First Division Falkirk.

Certainly the Hibs fans love the youngster already with his fearless approach to the game and his ability to take (and beat) a man with pace which has brought more than a few supporters to admit they’re on the edge of their seat in anticipation whenever the Scotland Under 19 cap gets his foot on the ball.

Such expectations however should be tempered somewhat with the recent failure of another youngster, Calum Booth, who was heralded as the next big star to come through the Hibs Academy, who having found himself on loan at Livingston, has largely failed to shine in a Division where he should be a star given his undoubted talent.

Booth burst into the first team as a 19 year old and impressed in his first few outings following a successful loan spells with Arbroath and Brechin City but found himself struggling as the team floundered under Colin Calderwood.

Harris certainly appears to have the skills and temperament to reach the very top of the game, Hibees everywhere hope the talent is fulfilled at Easter Road.
