Hibs have confirmed striker James Collins has departed the club for English League 2 outfit Shrewsbury after a hapless one year stay in Edinburgh.

Collins was Pat Fenlon’s marquee summer signing last season but the 22 year old failed to impress at Easter Road following his arrival from Swindon Town.

The highlight of his short time at the club was undoubtedly scoring the opener against Hearts in the New Year Edinburgh Derby although it was one of few highs during an all round ineffective campaign.

Signed to replace fans favourite, Leigh Griffiths, the forward was expected to hit the ground running with his record of scoring in the lower reaches of the English leagues however his inability to net on a regular basis confirmed his all round game wasn’t suited to the Scottish Premiership.

The Irishman has returned south in the hope of re-igniting a stalled career with The Shrews with new Hibs CEO Leeann Dempster admitting a ‘mutually beneficial’ deal had been struck with the Shropshire outfit.

Dempster told the official club website ‘Everybody connected to the club would like to wish James all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his career. We’ve agreed a mutually beneficial deal with Shrewsbury and now we move on.’
