Hibs boss Pat Fenlon has praised his team following a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Easter Road.

The Hibees had fell to an opening day 3-0 defeat against the same outfit which had many fans sceptical regarding their teams chances of a competitive season.

Goals from Leigh Griffiths and Eoin Doyle had given Hibs a two goal lead in the clash but despite gifting the visitors a goal, Fenlon’s men held firm to secure a deserved victory.

‘I certainly didn’t think after Tannadice that we’d be sitting here, today, top of the league.’ Fenlon said.

‘That is great credit to the players. They knew they didn’t work hard that day, but they’ve rolled their sleeves up and worked hard to get better.

‘I thought it was a complete performance today. We were superb in the first half and in the second half we had to defend, football is about doing both.

‘It shows we’ve come a long way.’

The Hibs boss also revealed he’d told his players to do their talking on the pitch rather than get involved in any feuds with United player Rudi Skacel, the midfielder who played a vital role in Hearts Scottish Cup victory last season and who requested the number 51 jersey in reference to the final score having signed on at Tannadice.

‘We said to them to not get involved in anything.’ Fenlon said ‘It’s about playing football matches and winning games. The best answer for anybody is to go and win the game.’
