Failure Is Not An Option

It’s time for Hibs to finally rise to the occasion and lay their relegation fears to rest by defeating Kilmarnock when the two sides meet in a winner takes all clash at Easter Road.

With only one victory in 18 league matches the Hibees are currently in the midst of a depressing run of form which saw them fall from top 6 challengers to favourites to end the season in 11th spot and thus becoming the first club to enter a relegation play off against Championship opposition following league reconstruction last summer.

How Terry Butcher’s men find themselves in this position is through no-ones fault but their own and the players and management must take responsibility for the appalling performances over the past few months.

Saturday’s clash sees them able to salvage a little pride from a disastrous campaign which should allow Butcher and soon to be appointed CEO Leeann Dempster to make a clean sweep of the club during the summer months to ensure Hibs are indeed challenging for a top six berth next season.

A victory will provide a small crumb of comfort for the supporters to cling to as they envisage a full overhaul of the playing squad which has disappointed more often than not this season.

Many are sure to be shown the exit door but one would expect a professional footballer to not wish for a relegation from the poorest Scottish Premiership in living memory to make it onto their CV.

Given the playing budget at Easter Road there is no way the club should be near the lower reaches of the SPFL and it’s up to the squad to secure the immediate top flight status of the Leith side – put simply, failure tomorrow is not an option.
