Hibs have received a bid from Rotherham United for star midfielder Scott Allan whilst Wigan Athletic have made an inquiry.

The Championship player of the year recently submitted a transfer request to the club following interest from promotion rivals Rangers who themselves failed with a third bid yesterday.

Alan Stubbs, Hibs Head Coach, has stated the player is not for sale whilst a statement on the club website assured fans he wouldn’t be sold to the fallen Glasgow giants.

Interest from south of the border was not however anticipated with Allan failing to adapt to the English game when he joined West Bromwich Albion who farmed him out on loan to Portsmouth, MK Dons and Birmingham City.

Rotherham, managed by Scot Steve Evans, tabled a £375,000 offer which was quickly rejected but with Wigan now sniffing around there could be a potential biding war on the cards.

Without doubt, any player in the Scottish game has his price and should Hibs receive a bid they deem acceptable, likely upwards of £750,000, then it’ll be interesting to see where the funds would be used to strengthen.

Allan himself has kept a low profile since handing in his transfer demand but showed his worth to the side with a half hour cameo appearance from the bench when he lifted an ordinary game last weekend against Montrose by scoring a sublime goal in a 3-0 victory.

The biggest questions will arise if and when the correct amount of money is offered but from a Hibs point of view the player could be virtually irreplaceable despite the recent acquisition of John McGinn and the continued trial of former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Rhys McCabe at the club.
