Farid El Alagui has told the club website of his excitement ahead of the first Edinburgh Derby of the season.
The 28 year old striker, signed in the summer following his release by Brentford, admits he’s been ‘overwhelmed’ by the reception he’s received from the club’s supporters since his arrival.
Now the player is looking to thank the fans by helping his side to victory at Tynecastle this Sunday.
El Alagui said: “I`ve been overwhelmed by the warm welcome I`ve received from the fans since I came here in the summer.
“Every supporter I`ve met has been enthusiastic and they want to enjoy their football again. They clearly want that, they`ve waited for that and now we want to make it happen for them.
“The message I`ve been given from the fans is to leave the past in the past and that now we must all move forward together.
“When you meet the supporters, like we did at the Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon, they fill you with positivity and that support and energy helps you to go out, enjoy playing and win.”
El Alagui admits he wants his side to put on a performance which pleases the fans and believes the whole squad is looking forward to the trip across the city.
He said: “When I signed for the club, I saw the fixture list and first of all I saw Rangers away quickly followed by Hearts away. When you see the Edinburgh Derby on the fixture list you just can`t wait to be part of it and experience it all.
“Everybody in the squad is looking forward to it. We want to go there, enjoy it and win.
“Our supporters deserve it and we`ll all be giving everything we can in order to put a smile on their faces at the end of the game.”
