Dons Enter Commons Race

Hibs could face competition from Aberdeen should winger Johnny Haynes be tempted south of the border.

Cardiff City, managed by Neil Warnock, have seen two bids for the 29 year old Irishman thrown out by the Dons but is likely to test their mettle with an improved bid prior to transfer deadline day.

Should the Irishman move to Wales, The Scottish Sun is reporting Derek McInnes will try to lure Commons to the north east as a replacement.

Hibs are keen to re-sign the player who was a hit during his 28 day emergency loan deal and the 33 year old expressed a desire to stay at Easter Road to help the club to promotion following last weekend’s match against Dumbarton where he netted the winner.

There were reports of interest from the American MLS in the former Nottingham Forest and Derby man but with his family settled in Scotland he’s likely to prefer to stay on this side of the Atlantic.

News of Aberdeen’s interest will be a blow to Neil Lennon’s aspirations of seeing a return to Easter Road for the midfielder however the Hibs boss will hope his personal relationship and the enjoyable time the player had during his short period in the capital will be enough to sway him to persuade Commons to return to Leith should acceptable terms be agreed with Celtic.

Brendan Rogers has signalled the end of Commons career at the runaway Premiership leaders and with there being only six months left on his playing contract at Parkhead it’s likely any deal done before the end of the transfer window will be for this duration only which will allow the player himself to reassess his options come summer.

If the report in The Sun is true (normally Kenny Millar covers Hibs and is usually bang on) then it’ll be a big decision for KC to makes. I’d love to see him return but would the lure of top flight football be too much?
