Hibs CEO Leeanne Dempster has claimed the club have received more than 40 applicants for the vacant manager’s role following the sacking of Terry Butcher.

Despite their relegation from the Premiership it proves the job is still one of the most attractive roles in the domestic game, but Dempster refused to name any of those interested.

Dempster said: “We are carrying out diligence on the names that are of greatest interest to us, from those targeted by us and also those who have come towards us.

“And from that process we are creating our shortlist. I would hope that we will be able to start talking to people over the next few days.

“I understand there will be a lot of speculation and interest, and we will try to keep people posted when it is appropriate to do so. Meantime, we will try to get things concluded to get the right person in as quickly as we can.”

Thought to be in the mix to take over the reigns from Butcher’s calamitous seven month stint in the hot seat are former players Ian Murray and Danny Lennon while Stuart McCall’s previous good working relationship with Dempster at Motherwell sees him amongst the favourites.

Hibs have also confirmed the appointment of George Craig in the role of Head of Football Operations.

Craig will oversee player development from youth level upwards.
