Hibs have completed a season long deal for Henri Anier with the Dundee United becoming the second arrival at the club on transfer deadline day.

Islam Feruz, another who has joined on a loan deal from English giants Chelsea, was confirmed earlier this afternoon.

Having read much speculation regarding a possible big name arrival such as Stevie May or Anthony Stokes, Hibees will be a little disappointed at the announcement of Anier.

The Estonian striker has largely been a bit part player for Jackie McNamara’s Arabs side since joining from Bundesliga 2 outfit Erzgebirge Aue during last January’s transfer window.

Despite failing to reproduce the displays which saw him impress for Motherwell, the 24 year old continues to be selected for his nation and he’s currently with Estonia ahead of a European Championship clash with Baltic rivals Lithuania on Saturday.

Anier’s arrival has pleased boss Alan Stubbs who told the official club website: “Henri will bring something different to our attacking options.

“He is a powerful centre forward who will bring others in to play and compliment the qualities of our other strikers. He knows the Scottish game and will hit the ground running here.

“We now have strong competition for places within the team and that will bring out the best in the players that are already here.”

The striker faces a challenge to get first team football at Easter Road however with James Keatings, Jason Cummings, Dominique Malonga and Farid El Alagui all at the club although rumours about the latter’s ability to fully recover from injury continue to circulate.

Anier, if he can act as a target man to bring the midfield into play or to hold the ball up looking for support could prove to be a decent signing at Championship level but it depends on whether or not Stubbs can man manage him well enough to boost his confidence which must be fairly low after an innocuous few seasons in Scotland and abroad.

It is what it is and overall this has been a good transfer window for Hibs and the backroom staff generally seem able to pick up those considered on the scrapheap (Allan, Fyvie etc) and rejuvenate their careers so The Estonian forward may just prove to be the answer to our misfiring frontline.
