Young Hibs star David Wotherspoon is confident the club’s tour of the Netherlands will benefit the side ahead of Thursday’s clash in Slovenia against NK Maribor.

Talented midfielder Wotherspoon, who operated as an emergency right full back for the majority of the season just past, reckons playing continental opposition in hot conditions prior to the Europa League Qualifier will be crucial as it allowed the squad to acclimatise to unfamiliar weather.

Speaking to the official club website the 20 year old said ‘The game against Vitesse was important because it was a good work-out and in terms of preparing for Thursday it was a useful exercise.

‘We are still getting our fitness and match sharpness back, so playing the four games in such a short space of time was beneficial.

‘We are expecting the match on Thursday to be played in hot conditions, so it was good to be able to prepare in such a warm climate.

‘Often it can be hard to adjust to the heat, so now we are used to that heading into the game on Thursday.’

The player also hopes to make his European debut when the Hibees face Maribor with the Scotland under 21 star admitting ‘It is really exciting and I cannot wait; hopefully I will get a piece of the action. It is really important that we start off positively and it would be great to get that first win in Europe.’
