Hibernian’s fifth arrival of the transfer window, after Chris Dagnall, Niklas Gunnarsson, Anthony Stokes and Kevin Thomson, was recently announced with Finnish ‘keeper Otso Virtanen snapped up from Finnish Premier Division side IFK Mariehamn.

Virtanen will now add extra competition on the goalkeeping front, which can only be a good thing for Hibs, with him signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 6ft 5in ‘keeper has already gained international experience at U21 level with Head Coach Alan Stubbs telling the Official Website.

‘Otso is someone we’ve been tracking for a while and I’m delighted that we have concluded the deal. He is a keeper with lots of potential that we’re looking forward to developing. I’m sure he’ll be another positive addition to the first team squad.’

Virtanen will be part of the Hibs future but Dominique Malonga isn’t as his departure from Easter Road to sign for Italian side FC Pro Vercelli 1892 has been announced with him confirmed as leaving for the Serie B side for an undisclosed fee.

During his 54 appearances for Hibs he had an impressive return of 22-goals but the 27-year-old’s chances have been limited by others in recent times and recent arrivals of others too wouldn’t help.

The Official Website also confirmed Islam Feruz has seen his loan spell ended and he’s returned to Chelsea with Conner Duthie leaving by mutual consent.

A statement read.

‘Everyone at Hibernian FC would like to thank Dominique, Islam and Conner for their contributions to the club and wish them well with their future careers.

‘Meanwhile, Jamie Insall has extended his loan spell with East Fife. Jamie has scored three goals for the Fifers since joining the club in November, and will continue his development at Bayview Stadium until the end of the season.’
