Hibs face Elgin City this weekend in a Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie which sees the sides meet for the very first time in a competitive fixture.

The 15 times Highland League Champions are of course relative newcomers to the Scottish football pyramid having been granted league status in 2000 albeit they have never played outwith League 2.

Managed by Gavin Price who was part of the Stirling Albion side which caused a huge upset in defeating a Hibs side containing Pat McGinlay, Mixu Paatelainen and Russell Latapy back in 1999 at the same stage, the Borough Briggs outfit will look towards Jon Paul McGovern as a creative influence in the hope of causing a major shock.

McGovern plied his trade south of the border for most of his career and was a cult hero at Sheffield Wednesday where he helped them to promotion and appeared 61 times.

Interestingly this is Hibs first home tie at this stage in the competition since 2012 when a David Wotherspoon strike saw Hibs knock then holders Hearts out.

Here we look back on the last five years fixtures:

21-1-18 Hearts 1 Hibs 0

A disappointing performance saw Hibs lose to their capital rivals for the first time in 10 games when a late Don Cowie touch gave Hearts the victory.

Martin Boyle spurned Hibs best 2 chances but a negative display got it’s just reward.

21-1-17 Bonnyrigg Rose 1 Hibs 8 (Andrew Shinnie 11, James Keatings 15, 76, Chris Humphries 24, Jason Cummings 52,72, Lewis Stevenson 61, Jordan Forster 82)

Hibs overwhelmed their non league opponents with an easy victory played at Tynecastle.

The match was their first in defence of the trophy won on that glorious day in May with Neil Lennon’s side eventually losing out at the semi final stage after a 3-2 defeat to Aberdeen.

9-1-16 Raith Rovers 0 Hibs 2 (Darren McGregor 61, Dominique Malonga 64)

Where the journey all began… This was no classic encounter as then Championship side Hibs travelled to Fife to take on the Kirkcaldy side on a cold January afternoon.

A rather non descript game was settled by 2 excellent strikes by McGregor and Hanlon but little did those who filled the Val McDiarmid Stand on this occasion know this was the beginning of the end of 114 years of pain.

29-11-15 Alloa 1 Hibs 2 (Liam Craig 28, David Gray 37)

Hibs came from behind to defeat a plucky Alloa side who were perhaps deserving of a replay.

Liam Craig scored a fine free kick and David Gray headed a winner (sound familiar?) as Alan Stubbs newly assembled side scraped through despite Dominique Malonga’s red card.

The Hibees were favourites to reach the final however a defensive masterclass by old foes Falkirk saw the Bairns edge into the Final courtesy of a 1-0 victory.

30-11-14 Ross County 0 Hibs 1 (Danny Handling 31)

Terry Butcher recorded a rare highlight during his calamitous reign at Easter Road when Danny Handling secured passage to the Fifth Round with Hibs first ever victory over the Highlanders and Butcher’s first as manager following his appointment.

Hibs had Paul Cairney sent off after receiving a second yellow card for diving.

True to form Hibs were knocked out in the next round when Championship side Raith Rovers recorded a 3-2 victory at Easter Road.
