The January transfer window is due to close on Tuesday. Anything interesting in store for Hibs fans?

Will the January transfer window slam shut for Hibs fans or is it likely to close meekly without help or hinderence?

Deadline Day is normally pretty exciting, Jim White in his yellow tie and Kate Abdo resplendant in her canary dress and all that but generally when it comes to Scottish football it all feels a bit anti climatic.

Currently sitting six points clear at the top of the Championship, Neil Lennon might feel the current squad is strong enough to see off the challenge of Dundee United and Morton to claim the title, probably rightly so, but only a foolish man would rest on their laurels at this stage of the campaign.

There’s no doubt the management team at Easter Road will have potential additions on their mind alongside those who are surplus to requirements but exactly who will be a target?

Kris Commons, having enjoyed a brief five match cameo during a 28 day emergency loan spell with the club and with Lennon keen to re-sign the 33 year old who netted twice during his time at Easter Road he’s the most likely arrival providing of course a suitable arrangement can be agreed with Celtic.

One potential stumbling block is Aberdeen’s reported interest should they lose Johnny Hayes to Cardiff City so it’s far from a certainty the Englishman will make a return.

French striker Dylan Bikey has enjoyed a trial period at East Mains and having been released from his contract with Stirling Albion to pursue a move to a higher level he could also be a deadline day arrival but again Hibs face competition for his signature from title contenders United and Morton alongside the prospect of shelling out compensation to FC Dieppe.

Liam Henderson has been touted as another who could make a second coming to Leith, having made a huge impact on loan last season but seldom featuring for Celtic during this.

His dramatic influence after appearing as a second half substitute in the Scottish Cup Final affords Hendo legendary status amongst Hibs fans and despite his obvious affection for the Edinburgh Greens it’s unlikely he’ll be seen strutting around Easter Road for the second half of the season unless Brendan Rodgers sees it as a benefit to his development.

Hibs have also been linked with a few players from south of the border during the current window.

Manchester United’s Josh Harrop was mentioned tentatively, Sunderland left back Thomas Robson and Preston striker Stevie May have all been discussed as possible loan signings but all chat seems to have disappeared as quickly as the story broke.

As regards departures we wrote an article midway during the transfer window suggesting some of those who may leave for pastures new.

From our ‘possibles’ list only Otso Virtanen has left so there is scope to still get a few from the wage bill.

Hopefully Leeann and Lennon will be able to pull the preverbial rabbit from the hat and come closing time on Tuesday we’ll be reflecting on a successful end to the window closing.
