Head coach Alan Stubbs has refused to blame the players as we registered back to back defeats in the game against Raith Rovers.

Having lost two nil to Rangers, we also lost two one this weekend and whilst it wasn’t the result anybody wanted, and whilst Stubbs did want a reaction, although there’s disappointment he’s refusing to be too downbeat or to panic.

In quotes carried by the Daily Record Stubbs infact praised the players for their efforts because he knew we had more than enough chances to have won the game and in many ways it should’ve been game over by the half time break, but it wasn’t to be.

‘When you`re on top in games you have to capitalise and put away your chances. We didn`t and that was disappointing. But when you see how we`ve tried to play, the chances we`ve created and how we`ve passed the ball around on a very difficult surface, you can`t criticise the players. At this time of the season you have to deal with pressure. But if we play like that from now to the end of the season I know what side of the results we`re going to be on more often than not.’

In further quotes carried by the BBC, he also said following the game.

‘It’s a really tough one to be honest. It’s one of those where I think everybody will look back and scratch their head and wonder how have we lost the game. But, that’s football, it can be a cruel game at times. We’ve created a lot of opportunities but we’ve not taken them and when you don’t do that there’s the potential for results like this to happen. There’s no panic stations. That’s the best we’ve played for a number of weeks. The stats won’t lie today but maybe the result did.’

Commenting again on pressure with us staying in second place on goal difference, but with Rangers having a game in hand, Stubbs said it’s all still to play for.

‘It’s a nice pressure as it means we’re challenging for something. I’d rather have the pressure of trying to achieve something at the top than at the bottom. I’ll take that all day long.’

We’ve certainly made the play off battle a bit more interesting with recent results, but Stubbs is right, you get days like that and it’s a much better position to be in with the chances still coming, rather than not coming at all, but we need to get back to winning ways, and quickly, so we can see the season out how we want to now.
