Former Hibs manager Alan Stubbs has recalled the momentous day in May when he led his side to Scottish Cup glory signifying an end to 114 years of misery for Hibees ahead of a Fourth Round David vs Goliath clash with Bonnyrigg Rose.

Speaking at a William Hill media event to promote the Scottish Cup in conjunction with the main sponsor Stubbs has told of his joy at ending Scottish football’s longest hoodoo.

“What we achieved was not lost on ourselves and will never be lost,’ Stubbs admitted.

‘It`s now there in the history books. If you ever want to be reminded of it you can look at some of the photos of the Sunday (Parade) and reminisce.

‘When you have won something as momentous, I don`t think anything can tarnish it. It`s still a fantastic achievement. What happened in the aftermath was unfortunate – I don`t think anybody who has just won it would have wanted it to be that way. I wish it had never happened but it did and it`s still ongoing with the authorities and the police.’

The remarkable Cup win was Stubbs last match in charge of Hibs after the Liverpudlian decided to accept the managers role at Championship outfit Rotherham however his move closer to home wasn’t a rip roaring success and he, alongside backroom duo Andy Holden and John Doolan, were sacked after a poor start to the season returned only 1 victory in 13 matches.

Stubbs also had a cautionary word for those who believe last season’s success could lead to similar, jubilant scenes down Leith Walk this May by adding: ‘For me, to do it for a second year would probably be harder because everyone will want to beat the cup holders. You only have to look at what the headlines were last season when Inverness lost: “Cup holders are out” straight away. But it is a nice pressure to start as cup holders.”
