Stubbs Promises Attacking Approach

Newly appointed Head Coach Alan Stubbs has promised vibrant, attacking football will be brought back to Easter Road at the official press to welcome him to the club.

Stubbs also admitted he’d been sold on Chief Executive Leeann Dempster’s vision for the club and believed the job was the ideal opportunity to prove himself as a club manager at senior level having spent the past few years in charge of Everton under 21’s.

He said: ‘It’s no secret that I saw myself as a manager one day. I’ve had a great introduction with Everton, five years with the under-21s. I had a few opportunities where I could have gone into management but I didn’t feel it was the right opportunity at that time.

‘It had to be the right opportunity. Meeting with Leeann, the vision she has got to take this club forward, it’s exciting and something that appealed to me.’

Hibs relegation to the Championship saw former manager Terry Butcher release fourteen players in addition to the sale of James Collins to Shrewsbury Town and Stubbs is convinced he can build a team to play vibrant, attack minded football – a characteristic missing at Easter Road over the past few seasons.

He added: ‘I’ll be utilising all the contacts and favours that I have given people in the past to put a team on the pitch that is going to play football, be exciting to watch, score goals, and I want the fans to be proud of the team.’

Despite the presence of crisis club Rangers and city rivals Hearts in the Championship this season, the new man wants to see Hibs back in the top flight and appears to be relishing an ‘exciting’ challenge.

Stubbs admitted: ‘The ambition is to get back up as quickly as possible. It’s going to be an exciting league.

‘I don’t think Rangers anticipated playing Hearts and Hibs this year so it’s going to be tough for them, and it’s going to be tough for us. But it’s going to be exciting.’
