Alan Stubbs and Dominique Malonga faced the press following the Hibees defeat at Dumbarton and both were at a loss to explain the poor performance.

Head Coach Stubbs refused to blame the ongoing speculation over Scott Allan’s future as an excuse for the sub standard display and instead focused on his team’s shortcomings.

He said: “I`m not taking the farce of what`s been going on over the last few weeks as an excuse.

“It`s not the ideal result – far from it – but the players are under no illusions what I expect. There were too many who were not at it today.

“It`s a disappointing result. Decision-making, taking care of the first touch, being sloppy and not making your mind up quickly enough – there were lots of things to point at.

“It`s only one game but we want to start quicker and better and get a more positive result but we need to dust ourselves down and go again next week.

“It was down to two set pieces. We got ourselves back into the game but our final ball let us down too many times.

“We`ve had enough chances to get back in the game. The first goal was a poor goal to concede then we just haven`t worked that final ball. The fans are as unhappy as me.”

Striker Malonga, who netted after 14 minutes to pull his side level, was equally as perplexed over the dismal showing but insisted Hibs can recover from the defeat to The Sons.

“It was bad but we didn`t deserve anything,’ said the Congo international.

“If we want to win the Championship, we have to focus. They scored from their first free-kick and that was bad from us.

“It`s better to happen now as it means we will work harder. But I really don`t understand what has happened here.

“We had great motivation to win and it`s unbelievable to give away three points like. We need to learn from it.”

Hibs fans will be hoping both player and manager back up their words and produce a far more determined performance when they face Morton at Easter Road as prior to heading to Ibrox on August 23rd the Easter Road outfit need a confidence boost to lift morale.

A 3-0 victory over Montrose apart, Hibs were less than convincing throughout pre season and must start to lift themselves for games regardless of opposition.
