Police have today issued a CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with an assault on Hibs midfielder Gary Deegan last month.

The assault took place in the Capital’s George Street following an evening out with team mates that included club Captain James McPake.

Deegan has missed five games since the attack which saw him receive a broken jaw and the former Coventry star only returned to training last week.

Detective Constable Graham McIlwraith told the local newspaper “The victim suffered a painful facial injury as a result of this incident and police have been conducting various enquiries including viewing several hours of CCTV footage from in and around George Street.

“The male pictured is believed to be of significance to our investigation and anyone who can assist in tracing him is asked to come forward.

“Similarly, we would ask this male to get in touch with police himself and help with our investigation.”
