Once The Dust Settles

The whole Neil Lennon drama has cast a shadow of doubt in the minds of Hibs supporters who, despite an errant run of form, backed the Irishman to come good again at Easter Road.

Certainly there are a few who’ll be glad to see the back of the man who led the club to the Championship title but in general terms Lennon was loved by the support despite the dip in form.

It’s a sad end to what had been a prosperous relationship. Lennon’s demands of his players have ultimately seen him sacrificed by the club hierarchy however a parting of the ways has seemed almost inevitable this season whether it be now or at the end of the campaign.

Lennon was never a man to mix his words and cleverly questioned the board’s ambition and continually challenged them to provide funds to make Hibs the finished article rather than a football club scratching the surface of their raw potential.

His recruitment policy undermines his time at Easter Road with many big time failures and questionable additions. If any other club had signed Welsh, Dutch and Greek internationalists you’d expect them to be standout performers in a league bereft of genuine talent however these players could barely get a whiff of game time ahead of the reliable but unspectacular Lewis Stevenson or the injury prone God of David Gray.

It’s doubtful Lennon will be looked back up misty eyed by Hibs supporters but he gave the club some special moments and it’s a little tragic it’s ended in such acrimonious fashion.

He’ll forever be remembered fondly by the wider fan base and hopefully his reputation will not be negatively impacted by insinuations or embellished dramatization’s of the few facts taken as gospel.

Neil Lennon is not a Hibernian legend but he deserves the thanks of all at Easter Road.
