Hibs and managerial partnership Neil Lennon and Garry Parker this afternoon released a joint statement confirming the duo will depart Easter Road following discussions with the board.

It’s certainly interesting and can be read in full here.

“They have not been dismissed and have not resigned.”:- Hibernian and Neil Lennon Joint Statement

The term mutual consent is often used as a euphemism for a club terminating a manager’s contract however it appears on the balance of probability it is actually the case in this instance.

In general terms it reads as a get out of jail free card which has been played by all parties.

To future employers, Lennon and Parker leave without their reputations being tarnished and indeed highlights the achievements of their two and a half year spell at Easter Road with no negative comments made by either side.

One slightly disturbing aspect of the press release is the absence of comment from CEO Leeann Dempster who is alleged to have suspended the Irishman from his role following a terse meeting last Friday, the view from the Hibernian board instead coming from Chairman Rod Petrie who stated:  “We are grateful to Neil and Garry for all their efforts and in particular for leading the club back to the top flight of Scottish football. We wish nothing but the best for Neil and Garry and their families for the future.”

It was Dempster after all who went out on a limb to entice Lennon to the club following the departure of Alan Stubbs and it would appear her omission from the statement confirms the settlement process was indeed handled by Petrie despite claims the day to day running of the club would be left to the CEO.

Lennon meanwhile stayed graceful with his comments simply stating: “I would like to thank the board, the coaching staff, the players and all the fans for making the last two and a half years so enjoyable. It has been my privilege to serve the club and I wish it every success in the future.”

What a corny fudge. I’ve never laughed so many since I was a children. From what I have heard half the team demanded Lennon be sacked.

I doubt anyone will know the full truth in the near future.

It might be years down the line until we get the full story.
