McGivern Set For Vale

Northern Ireland international Ryan McGivern is close to the Easter Road exit door and is expected to sign for English League One outfit Port Vale on Monday.

Despite Alan Stubbs arrival at the club heralding a new start for the few remaining senior pro’s at Easter Road, McGivern has already been deemed surplus to requirements by the new Head Coach.

The 24 year old, capped 19 times by his country, had a poor campaign for the Hibees as they slid towards relegation from the Scottish Premiership and was culpable for the first goal in the return leg of the play-off against Hamilton which saw Hibs surrender a two goal advantage gained in the first to ultimately succumb to a penalty shoot out defeat to the Lanarkshire outfit and thus condemning them to life in the Championship.

McGivern had penned a permanent deal at Easter Road only last summer following a loan spell from Manchester City the previous season but having been a relative success during his initial time at the club, his form deteriorated once Pat Fenlon, the man who brought him to Edinburgh, resigned his position in November.

Equally suited to playing left back or centre half but uncomfortable in both, a return down south is sure to suit both parties as both club’s look to rebuild for their respective upcoming campaigns.

Not sad to see him go in the slightest. Hope any Vale fans reading this don’t convince their manager not to sign him.
