Interest in Jason Cummings isn’t new; this has come from clubs north and south of the border for a while now.

Many had anticipated the Scottish U21 international would leave this summer but so far the signs are he’ll see out the final year of his contract at least.

Lennon’s not only looking to bring in players he’s also looking to retain them too with Cummings among the most talented Hibernian have who he therefore wants to retain, telling the BBC.

‘We are working away in the background trying to bring in players. We’re looking at one or two areas of the squad to strengthen and there are players I’d like to keep – Cummings being the main one.’

The 20-year-old had himself said after the Scottish Cup final win over Rangers in May that a chance to play in Europe was another ‘good reason’ to remain at Easter Road.

A ‘positive chat’ has taken place with Cummings with Lennon adding he’s hopeful of that being positive enough for him to stay for another ‘year or two’ as the boss feels his development would be benefited in doing this.

‘I had a chat with him over the weekend and that was positive. Now we give the kid some time to go away and think about what he wants to do next. He’s only 20 and I think he has a good future. I think he would benefit from another year or two with us.’
