The Hibernian run in the League Cup is continuing into the final after the semi final win against St Johnstone at Tynecastle on Saturday.

Winning 2-1 was sweat enough for Hibs but to confirm a place in the League Cup Final at the home of bitter rivals Hearts (with Celtic, which would mean Anthony Stokes (who had a minor injury and missed the semi) couldn’t face his parent club, or Ross County the opponents) even more so for the Hibees!

The lead, at least the chance to take the lead, came the way of Hibs just before the half hour mark when a controversial penalty was awarded. Liam Henderson went down under the challenge of Chris Millar, with St Johnstone (which, in fairness Hibs probably wouldn’t have been either) unhappy with Henderson going down under ‘minimal contact.’ Jason Cummings made no mistake though to put the Hibees ahead.

St Johnstone were soon level though with the Premiership side equalising when Joe Shaughnessy headed home into the top corner from a David Wotherspoon cross.

John McGinn provided the winner through when he fired home with a little over 15-minutes to play to give Hibs the win that was deserved all in all to see the fine work being done by Alan Stubbs continue.

This win was assured late on when Mark Oxley, who knows he’s under pressure for his place more so than he’s ever been with Stubbs bringing in another ‘keeper, made a fine save to deny Shaughnessy with another header.

Hibs, even after the equaliser, did remain on top but a Simon Lappin freekick had rattled the crossbar in the second half before the McGinn winner.

Who was the Hibs MotM in this game? That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?
