Recently released midfielder Brian Kerr has joined Canadian MLS outfit Toronto FC on a trial basis as he seeks a fresh start in his career.

Kerr was deemed surplus to requirement by Hibs gaffer Mixu Paatelainen last month and the ex-Newcastle and Motherwell player has teamed up with his former coach at the Geordies, John Carver, at the Canadian outfit.

Despite enjoying a promising start to his career at Easter Road, the 25 year old soon found himself the subject of abuse from the stands after several lacklustre performances although then boss John Collins persisted with the player week in week out.

After Paatelainen’s arrival Kerr found himself firstly on the fringes of the first team and then out of the picture altogether.

His last appearance in a green and white shirt came in July’s Inter Toto Cup clash with Elfsborg.

There is a Scottish connection at Toronto where man of many clubs Maurice Johnston is Director of Football.
